It's a puzzle

Good morning crafty friends, hope you are all well. I have the lurgy again (tonsillitis) so have been back to the doctors for more antibiotics. Which I then had a reaction to, anyway I have different ones now so hopefully I will be on the mend soon. But because I haven't been feeling well, I haven't really done any crafting, so I decided that while I was resting I would do the name frame for me, that I have wanted to do for months. Thinking it would be an easy relaxing job! ha ha.

So I got an old Scrabble board and cut it down slightly to fit in a 12 x 12 inch frame.  Then I got all the letters out that I would need for the 23 names in our family. That is when the fun started lol. After puzzling over this (easy) job for quite some time, and nearly getting everyone on a few times, I eventually had to call in some back-up from Jude. Then it still took us over an hour to go from this.....

.....to this. Yeah, we finally got there, and managed to get everyone on, although I must admit we haven't used that 'important' middle square lol.

Then all I had to do was glue all the letters down and fit the board in it's frame.

This will now be going on our staircase somewhere I think. Hope you like it, take care and I'll see you soon.

Picture frame

Hello and welcome to the last day of July!  Where does time go?

I have another makeover piece to share today.

Kay and Ian's house had a lot of purple accessories  They particularly liked two picture frames they had snaps from their wedding in.  Unfortunately the colour scheme just will not match their new house so again I tried a makeover.

This is how the frames started.

I took one frame apart and found that the purple was actually painted on the underside of the glass.  I used sandpaper and had a go at removing it.  It worked but was taking a long time.

Next I tried a sharp blade.  This worked much quicker but left faint scratches.  I knew I could cover these but I wasn't too happy at having to.  I then accidentally stumbled on the easiest method of all.

I took some nail polish remover on a cotton wool pad to clean the glass.  It took the paint straight off!!  With this simpler method I stripped all the paint in no time.

As a neutral or green colour scheme had been requested I dug through my stash until I found the perfect blend.  I framed the picture with olive green and cream card, then covered the edge with gold glitter ribbon.

I while ago Jen and I bought loads of gilding flakes and I thought this would be a good project for them.  I cleaned the glass thoroughly then laid double sided tape along the edges.  I covered with gilding flakes from Clarity Stamps.  This blend is Variegated Green.  Believe me the picture does not do justice to the beautiful colours in this.

I poured the flakes on to the tape and rubbed them down with my fingers.  Once I had the tape covered I used a  scootchy to remove any loose flakes and polish them up.  The end result was lovely.

This is what the frame looked like when I put it all back together again.  Beautiful!!

Altered Frame

Good morning all. Just a quick post today to show you the frame that I altered when we went to the dabble day.

This was from the workshop with the lovely Mel Heaton. Where she showed us how to make different types of flowers by using circle punches.

I went totally away from my usual style and used pink and black for a change. I must admit it's not my taste but it looks lovely in the spare bedroom lol.

Anyway I'm waiting nervously by the phone today to hear when my grand daughter goes in and out of surgery. She's having her heart op today up in Leeds so as you can imagine it's an anxious time. I'm sure Jude will update you tomorrow.

See you soon, take care.

This, that and the other

Good morning crafty friends. I do hope you are enjoying the weekend. I have a few bits and pieces to share with you today, hence the title. lol.

I have been doing my fair share of crafting but as it is a special little lady's 2nd birthday tomorrow (Jude's granddaughter/my great niece) I can't share any of it yet ;-/

So I thought I would show you a couple of the bits that I am working on and some jewellery that I have made this week.

Firstly, while we were at the Craft Festival last weekend, we picked up a couple of bits that we haven't tried before. One of these is a flower loom. I had never even heard of it but Jude assured me that she had seen the result of some and that they looked really nice. So anyway, we splurged a whole £1 (lol) on a really cheap little plastic one, and I gave it a whirl on Friday.

I have to say for a first attempt, I'm pretty pleased with this little flower.

I know it could do with some tidying up, but I have only watched two videos on YouTube, so I'm pretty impressed lol. So I will definitely be trying again.

The jewellery has been made using some of the new beads that I also picked up last week.

This bracelet is a really heavy piece, those silver ball beads really do have some weight to them. Hence none on the earrings!

and finally, my daughter cam home from holiday the other day all raring to go and re-decorate their bedroom! So off they went shopping for bits and pieces and the result is the bedroom is going from red, white and blue, to teal, white and silver!!!

So on Friday evening she arrived at mine with these photo frames and said do something with them so that they match the new colours! (I did try to tell her that they were already white so already matched perfectly lol, but she wasn't haven't any of it).

So they are now adorning the work bench along with some Teal and Silver supplies ready to try and bling them up a bit, wish me luck.

Right that's more than enough from me today. Enjoy the rest of your weekends.

See you soon, take care
