DIY Wall Art

Good morning all, I hope you are having a good week. Since we had the living room decorated a couple of weeks ago, I have been looking for some ideas for art work. I didn't want anything too big and I really wanted to do something myself.

So after trawling Pinterest for a while and making myself a board with all living/dining room ideas on, I finally set to work this weekend and had a go.

I used a magazine freebie feather stamp for this and stamped it with Altenew Dye inks in grey and yellow, and then added the little sentiment underneath.

This was a free text printable that I'd had for some time, so I popped it into my photo editing software and gave it a sun frame and a grey background. Then I printed it as a 7 x 5 photo, and popped it in one of the white frames that I already had.  

This final one was again made with a couple of magazine freebie stamps. This time I stamped the images with Versamark ink and then with dark grey Altenew ink and heat embossed them with clear embossing powder. Then I layered the image with mustard card and used a scrap of leftover wallpaper for the background. (Excuse the chipped frame, didn't realise how badly it stood out until I saw the photo's lol.)

What do you think? I'm quite happy with them, and because they didn't cost me anything but a bit of time, I can easily change them when I get fed up lol 😉.

Our names in the frame

I don't have a card to share today.  Instead I thought you may be interested in a piece of art I made.

There are a number of ways to make name jumbles like this, but I used wordle.com.  The hardest thing to do is remember everyone's names lol! 

Once you have all your names you can change the font, colour, size and order until you have a layout you are happy with.

This was printed A4 landscape and popped in a certificate frame.  All in this took me about 15 minutes (plus the time to drive to the shop to buy more ink!!)

Deer plaque

Good morning all, well today is my last day at work for this year ;o)). I can't wait to get home and hopefully get everything sorted ready for Christmas day. I am also really looking forward to some time off to spend with the family. 

Today's post isn't a card for a change, but the canvas that I made at the last Dabble Day. 

This was made in the lovely Hels Sheridan's workshop.

We decorated a piece of card with stamps and distress inks and then stuck it on to a stretched canvas. 

I bit of black acrylic paint around the edge gives it a nice border. 

The deer is a Tim Holtz die cut and the sentiment is from a Tim Holtz set for Stampers Anonymous.

I'm not sure where the little cardinal is from, but I think the leaves etc. are also Tim Holtz. 

We finished it off with a little gold pine cone and some gold tinsel.

An inky/painty project

Good morning all, hope you are having a good week. I finally had time to finish the little art project that Jude gave me for Joe's canvas, this week. Do you remember the one she started a little while ago?

 

 

She has updated on it a couple of times, but now I have finished my bit. What do you think?

 

 

I started with the A4 canvas, and painted the edge with black acrylic paint. Then after some failed attempts testing, with various papers and velum I started again and painted the canvas with a light sand coloured acrylic paint.

 

 

I then over stamped all over the canvas with a script stamp and Archival black ink. I made the owl by stamping him and cutting him out, and then dry brushing with a little bit of  red shimmer paint, and some distress inks. I finished him with a bit of shabby white Frantage.

 

 

I wrote the words for the main sentiment on my Silhouette and then cut them out with it too. They came from a sign that I had seen while in Scotland.

 

 

Next I went to town with spray inks and baby wipes lol. Until I got a really aged effect on the canvas.

 

 

I then finished it with lots of metal and wood embellishments, cogs and wheels and a little bird.

 

 

It now just needs adding to the main canvas and it can be hung in Joe's new home. Hope you like it.

Canvas part two

You may remember a canvas I started quite a while back for my son's new home.  Since I took this picture I have layered some Ferro through a brickwork stencil in two of the corners, and added a small square canvas with an owl embellishment which Jen made in the Melt Pot.

I keep intending to finish this and take it to the house, but I never seem to get round to actually doing it!  This week I decided to knuckle down and make another piece which continues the owl theme.  This is what I came up with.

I took a 7x5 canvas board, painted it with cream acrylic and edged it with black paint and silver gilt wax.  The owl is a topper from a Hunkydory set and the sentiment is from the same sheet I used for my tag a few days ago.

Once these were adhered to the board I dry brushed some red and silver metallic paints over the top to pick out some of the colours in the owl image.  To finish off I added some Frantage glitter and paint chips.  These take some careful handling otherwise the heat gun blows them straight off of the board.

I'm pleased with the result and will decide where to place it on the main canvas once I have decided what else to add.  Jen is also making something to add on but I'm sure she will share that herself.

A little gift...

...for a lovely lady.

Good morning, hope you are all well and not getting too wet! It's been pouring down here since yesterday and doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon. But never mind if it wasn't the weather we would always find something else to moan about lol.

 

Anyway the reason for today's title, is that I have made a little something for Mum to hang in her bedroom. A 5x7 wall plaque using the same sort of techniques from one I made at a dabble day a few months ago.

 

Every time she sees something that we make for us or other people she always comments on how nice they are, so this time I thought I would make one just for her. Using colours to match their bedroom, which is why I went for the lilac and purples.

 

I started by paper blocking the base using 3 different papers from the same pad, and a couple of strips of deeper purple Washi Tape. Once these were glued down I went over it all with a coat of Matte Medium. After this dried I edged all of the paper pieces with a thick graphite pencil and then washed over everything with a light covering of sand coloured acrylic. Then I finished the bottom layer with a coat of crackling cream.

 

 I used a Stazon ink to stamp the heart designs, these are a Joanna Sheen stamp, and then used the same ink to stamp the mum word on to a piece of paper. This stamp is a Papermania one. I then spritzed the paper with Victorian Rose Cosmic Shimmer Spray and dried it with the heat gun.

 

I made a flower using different layers of ready made petals, but cut some of them up to add to the centre etc. and then gave this a good spritz with the cosmic shimmer spray too. I dried it a bit with the heat gun and then added some Shabby Pink Frantage and set this with the heat gun.

 

I layered the mum word on to a piece of white straw paper and then added this to the top of the plaque. Then I used some Graphite Ferro through a stencil to add a couple of leaves half way down.

 

I added the flower to the bottom, some pink ribbon and silver eyelets to the top and then finished the piece with three charms. A butterfly, a leaf and a watering can.

Gorguss tag

A few days ago I showed you my wall art display and the bare bones of another tag.  Today I can share the finished article.

Isn't she Gorguss? [Sorry ;)]

Having coated the tag with acrylic and adding the script paper I stamped one of the Gorguss girl stamps and coloured her with alcohol markers.  The circle pattern down the edges is another stamp from the same set.  This set is called Ruby,

The bottom was calling out for flowers under the swing so I took some ready made posies and formed them into one large embellishment.  A few plain petals underneath provided a good background for them to sit on.

Once I was happy with the lay out I covered the image and spritzed the flowers with Cosmic Shimmer sprays in Marigold and Mango Blush.  This just gives a coloured sheen to them, which can't be seen well in the picture.

 

The top of the tag was wrapped with twine.  The word plaque is from a set made by Creative Expressions.  I chose imagine because Ruby looked like she was day dreaming.

A coloured eyelet has been fixed to the top so I can hang the piece with the others on my wall.  Hope you like this one as much as I do.

Wall display

Morning crafters

I've made a few items that I really would like to hang on my bedroom wall.  So the last few days I have been finding out pieces and adding a means to hang them

For example:

I've started work on another tag to add to them, but haven't got too far yet.  I took a plain chipboard tag like this..........

 

And added white acrylic and a layer of newsprint paper.

 

 

I'll finish it off later in the week.

Art panel

Good morning all and happy Friday. Hope you are all having a good week. It's been pretty quiet around here with Jude being away ;o) but she will be back later today from her travels and by the sound of it she has had a great few days. 

While she has been away I have been getting a bit inky and painty in the craft room and making a lot of mess lol. But I have enjoyed it. And today's piece is the result of some of the playing! 

 

 

I have made this piece for my daughter as she is redecorating her house at the min and wanted some bits with green on for her hallway. 

 

 

I have used a canvas board and a few different colours of acrylic paint for the background. Followed by black paint for the dots stencil. 

Once all that was dry I rubbed it over with some crackle cream and heat set that with my heat gun.

 

 

I used another stencil for the flowers but this time with Reisen Ferro and then a rub over with Silver Gilt Cream.

 

 

The rose was plain cream, so I inked it with a few different colours of Cosmic Shimmer sprays and then added some Shabby White Frantage. I cut the butterfly from heat proof acetate and then used the Frantage on this too. I think it makes it look quite delicate.

 

 

I finished it with a small silver frame and added Family using sticky letters. I aged this with Distress Ink and then finished it with some more of the lovely Shabby White Frantage.
