Holly berry fail

Saturday at last, and I might get some time in the craft room this weekend.

I've been very slack this week, hence the need to make a card to post at 11 pm last night!

I rooted around in the scraps again and decided to make one of this month's Christmas cards.

I have several of these large sentiments, so I thought one would look good as the main focus of a card.

The idea was ok but my holly berries didn't turn out as I wanted.  The glitter is a little lumpy :0

I might try again but for now this will have to do.

Pixie Dust Cloud

Hello again.

I coloured this wonderful Krista Smith image a few days ago.  She was a free image given to members of Kit and Clowder's Facebook page to celebrate 3000 followers.

Once she was finished though, Jen suggested adding a little sparkle.  She has a glitter pen which I used to add in a few strokes through her hair and wings.  I think it finishes her nicely.

I then needed to make a card with her.  This is what I came up with!

I stuck with the orange and purple colour scheme.

I added some more glitter to her wings, the stars and around her magic bag.

The letters are cut with the Tim Holtz Carnival alphabet die.

So there she is - magical Pixie Dust Cloud. I'm going to enter her in to the Kit and Clowder fun hair combos challenge for August.

Pretty red dress

Good morning everyone and happy Sunday.

Jen showed you some of our holiday snaps yesterday so I won't bore you with any more lol.  Instead you get to see a simple card I made yesterday.

The image is from Time for Tea and was coloured before we went away.  Luckily I just had to think of a design to put her in.

I took papers from my scrap box and layered them on a red card blank and a black matt.

I then die cut two hearts layered with double sided sticky and added red glitter.

The sentiment was cut with a free die from a craft magazine.

So there she is.  A sweet little image and a simple card.

Happy Sunday folks!  Hope you are having a fabulous and crafty weekend.

I've been playing with Distress inks, markers, stains  and glitter (!) this week.  I've tried a couple of techniques I saw on Tim Holtz blog and had a go.  They didn't turn out how I envisioned but I made this tag anyway.  What do you think?

The background is made by adding several inks and stains to a craft sheet, spraying with water and then dragging the tag  through the colours. (I used Ripe Persimmon, Peacock Feathers and Frayed Burlap)  Over the top I inked through a floral stencil with Dried Marigold, then clear embossed over the top!

Once the background was completely dry (I left mine a couple of days!) I stamped a background image of flowers and grasses.  I also coloured a few hearts with glossy accents and distress glitter straight on the card.  I used the same technique on the bird, which was cut from Tim's birdcage die set.

The letters are cut with an Xcut alphabet die I bought at the new Range store on Friday.  I like this size.

The tag is not what I had in my mind but it let me experiment with different techniques.  I won't use them all again on the same piece, but it was a good learning experience.

Canvas part two

You may remember a canvas I started quite a while back for my son's new home.  Since I took this picture I have layered some Ferro through a brickwork stencil in two of the corners, and added a small square canvas with an owl embellishment which Jen made in the Melt Pot.

I keep intending to finish this and take it to the house, but I never seem to get round to actually doing it!  This week I decided to knuckle down and make another piece which continues the owl theme.  This is what I came up with.

I took a 7x5 canvas board, painted it with cream acrylic and edged it with black paint and silver gilt wax.  The owl is a topper from a Hunkydory set and the sentiment is from the same sheet I used for my tag a few days ago.

Once these were adhered to the board I dry brushed some red and silver metallic paints over the top to pick out some of the colours in the owl image.  To finish off I added some Frantage glitter and paint chips.  These take some careful handling otherwise the heat gun blows them straight off of the board.

I'm pleased with the result and will decide where to place it on the main canvas once I have decided what else to add.  Jen is also making something to add on but I'm sure she will share that herself.

Christmas in Purple?

Why not? lol. Good morning all, hope you are all having a great week. Last week we purchased a couple of new dies, OK three new dies lol ;o)) so I just had to try them out, and the piece of card that jumped in to my hand was purple. So I thought why not, and this is what I came up with.

 

I used the dies to cut the trees, houses and Father Christmas images in purple Centura Pearl cardstock.

 

 

Then I laid these out on to white Centura pearl card that I had embossed with a Spellbinders Embossabilities folder with small dots. Then I backed this piece with the purple card too.

 

 

I had some purple gingham ribbon that came with the Snowman set so I used that across the bottom and then tied a little bow to one side.

 

 

 

I added glitter to the tops of the die cuts, using a quickie glue pen and some white glitter.

 

 

Then I finished the card by stamping the sentiment with purple pigment ink and heat setting it with clear embossing powder. I then cut it out by hand and mounted it on to another piece of the purple card.

 

 

I think it turned out quite effective, what about you?
