Thirty years young

Welcome and thank you for joining us.

Today's card was made for my youngest Joe to send to his cousin Kayleigh.

Yes, Jen's daughter celebrates her thirtieth birthday today. 

Happy birthday K!

I started by choosing a bright paper and cutting the numbers with Papermania's Carnival Numbers dies.  These had fun foam attached before they were die cut to give some dimension. They turned out like large puffy stickers.

The intention was to have bright numbers on a subtle background, but it didn't quite work out like that, lol.

I took a sentiment strip from Simon Says Stamp and stamped my own 'plaid' background.  I tried to match the colours of the Altenew inks to those in the paper, but it didn't quite work.  I think the brown is definitely too dark!

Anyway, I persevered and I think it worked out okay.  I used the same dark chocolate ink for the sentiment strip and the inside greeting. On the inside it says 'After 30 the body has a mind of its own' :)

I added the panel to a toning card base to finish.  

If I was doing this again I would definitely use paler shades, but it isn't too bad.  What do you think of the final card?

Monkey business

Good morning all.  This is my last post before we head off on holiday and Jen takes over the blog with the gazillion cards she has in draft! Lol :)

Last weekend Jen's daughter Kayleigh celebrated her 28th birthday.  This is the card I made.

I used a piece of raspberry cardstock as the background and added a die cut made with the stitched border trio set from Mama Elephant.  I was going to cut the cloud effect border for the top but then remembered some small card blanks we have with a decorative edge.  I thought one of these was perfect for the top of the card.

The monkey and balloons are both from Mama Elephants Up and Away stamp and die set.

I used Copic markers to colour them then used the matching dies to cut them out.  The sentiment is also from this set.

A few sparkly diamante dots finish it off nicely.

Key chest

Hello again.  I have a very quick makeover to share with you today. 

You may recall a while ago I distressed a wooden key cabinet for Kay and Ian. Well now they are moving house the cupboard doesn't match the colours in their hallway, so Kay asked if I could do anything with it. 

This is how it looked when she brought it to me. 

I stripped off the green paper and sanded the whole piece. Then I went in search of a suitable paper to recover the door. I left the owls in tact as they still fit in nicely. 

The paper I chose is a grey chevron. I cut strips the width of the door frame and glued them in place. 

When they were dry I took grey and black inks and dirtied the papers.  This is how it turned out. 

Kay and Ian loved it and it is now waiting to be fastened to the wall in the new house.

Pretty Muddy

Morning folks.  Yes Jude again.  I may not be in any fit state to blog tomorrow as I'm off to do a 5km obstacle course to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

 

You may remember back in June my niece Kayleigh and I did the Race for Life 5k in Clumber Park.  This is another of the RfL events but with obstacles and MUD!!  My daughter Catherine is also joining in the fun.

Wedding Memories

Good morning all, I am having to schedule this post today as we are going to be away overnight visiting my grandson's and daughter in-law. Hopefully by the time this goes live I will still be asleep ;o)) lol but not for long! as the reason we are going just for 1 day is to take our youngest grandson, Bailey, to his first day at big school!!!! I can't believe it has come around so quickly, they really do grow up too fast lol.

 

Anyway, yesterday was my daughter K and her husband Ian's second wedding anniversary, so today's post is one of the cards I made for them.

 

 

For a change I have used my Serif Craft Artist software and a couple of Digikits to make some of their cards. I don't use this very often and really should use it more as there are some lovely digikits around, and I have quite a few lol.

 

 

This card is really simple it's a ready made scrapbook layout, re-sized to fit an 8x8 card. I then added a photograph and re-sized this to fit in a heart frame.

 

 

I printed it on to good quality cardstock and then added decorations including, roses and bakers twine.

 

 

I finished it off with a small double heart charm.

Normal service resumed

September already!!  Can you believe how the year is flying?  Pretty soon we'll have to start on Christmas :o

After 2 weeks leave I am back to work today.  The time has flown but I needed the break.  It is also time for the kiddly winks to return to school so the roads will be hellish again.  Oh well only 16 weeks to Christmas break ;)
 

As well as returning to work, today is also Kayleigh and Ian's 2nd wedding anniversary.  It seems no time at all since she was stressing us all out with details of the wedding. Forcing us to make cards and table decorations, instructing us on how she wanted the tables arranged, and the message tree (!) - well don't get me started.....
 

Seriously though it was a lovely day and the fact we had all made something or had some input to the day made it even more special.

Happy birthday Kay

A very happy, sunny Tuesday to you all and a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Jen's eldest, Kayleigh.

She has reached the grand age of 25 today and last night we had a family meal to celebrate.  Unfortunately her husband had to work so couldn't join us, but the rest of us ate too much and then had cake lol!

 

We have made quite a few cards over the last few days but today I am sharing the one I sent to her.

 

The topper came from a free set included with the Hunkydory magazine issue 10.  These little fairies are so sweet and the alcohol theme was very fitting ;)

 

 

This particular image is a decoupage of 2 fairies in a cocktail glass.  I made up the image with tiny foam pads.

 

The background and sentiment were added to an 8x8 card blank with a layer of deep purple co-ordinating card stock.

 

The border down the left was made with a Tonic punch and silver mirror card, wrapped with a deep purple ribbon.

 

The whole card was copied from the Hunkydory magazine as I really liked the layout.  Hope you do too.
